The NEW Idea:

A scene or set of scenes based on old Greek mythological stories/ paintings, with a focus on the figures. The reason for this is because there is almost nothing I love more than old mythological paintings and they inspire me and my work greatly. Of course I will try to integrate the oil painted textures into this project. I realize that the impact or message of this idea is not nearly as great, but it is something that Inspires me, and something that I feel like I could do and do well.

The Focus of the project:

What I want to focus on in this project is modeling/ sculpting the scene(s) as I imagine them. I would be texturing the scene with oil painted textures as previously discussed. I also think the lighting in these scenes is going to be very important.

Execution of project:

Would either do one set of multiple stories or go more in depth into one story having multiple scenes from one, unless one scene ends up being plenty in terms of work load.

Some interesting Greek Mythology candidates:

(For reference)

My two favorites being Prometheus and Sisyphus:

Prometheus and the theft of fire -

Prometheus thought it wrong that Zeus did not give any gifts to the humans, so he took it upon himself to steal fire from Hephaestus and gave it to the humans.

His punishment for doing so was to be chained to a mountain and to have his liver eaten out by an eagle every day.

Narcissus -

Nemesis punishes Narcissus for his hubris and makes him fall in love with his own reflection, he cannot bare to leave it so he slowly starves to death.

Sisyphus and his Eternal Punishment → (si - suh - fuhs) -

Makes the god of death angry after deceiving him, dies once and gets returned to the living, dies a second time and gets punished eternally by the gods to push a boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down when it reaches the top for eternity.

Tantalus’ eternal damnation-

After stealing the food of the gods, and killing and cutting up his own son as a sacrifice, he was punished by being thrown into Tartarus where he is to stay eternally hungry and thirsty. Over his head are delicious fruits, however, when attempting to reach them they would recede just out of reach. He was also required to stay in a lake, but could not drink the water as it would also recede when he attempted to drink it.

Artemis and the stag:

Artemis the huntress and her gold antlered stag. There is also a story of Acaeon seeing Artemis nude and so she turned him into a stag and unleashed her dogs after him.

A quick sketch of the Prometheus scene:

I will be trying out other ideas in terms of composition of the scene, but this is the first rough idea that I had for this scene.
